Choosing a Woodwind Instrument
Woodwinds include air-jet instruments such as flute and recorder, single-reed instruments such as clarinet and saxophone, and double-reed instruments such as oboe and bassoon. Reed cost, breath resistance, hand size, and cleaning needs differ substantially.
Beginner guidance: Recorder is among the easiest first instruments. Flute, clarinet, and saxophone are common school choices; oboe and bassoon usually benefit most from early specialist instruction.
